A query on dates

I have a question. While it was inevitable that post 9/11, all terrorist acts, across the world, would be remembered by their date of occurrence, shouldn't CNN-IBN and NDTV, be calling this dark day - 11/7 ? The last I remember, that was how I used to write dates in India. DD/MM/YY, not MM/DD/YY. It might seem highly trivial and a waste of time to think about the above, and I agree with you, but I gues I'm just very disturbed with everything.
